Not a bad week for riding. Not many miles during the week because I am still splitting my time with walking. I did make the Strava walking challenge of 50k. I had two good rides on the weekend despite the wind. It is supposed to get cold. Bah.

It warmed up for the weekend and I did a big ride for my birthday on Saturday. I found that I didn’t need a recovery ride on Sunday because I felt good. Not great for mileage but good in accomplishments.

Wind gusts up to 23 mph! Parked at the dog park in Tarpon Springs. It is across from the Trail. First leg goes right down Tarpon. I didn't realize there was a town besides the Sponge Docks. Looks interesting. Palm Harbor was familiar because we did a Photo Walk there years ago. Dunedin was very familiar as I have done several photo walks through the town. Food along the trail smelled good but it was too early. Most of the road crossings are four way stops. There wasn't much car traffic. Path cleared for a while. Trail changes route without good signage. The overpasses were killers. After four, I went the long way and dealt with the traffic. I did one as I turned around and found the rise wasn't too bad. Took a break at mile 30 to eat a stroopwafel. I finished my Sport Beans. I found some chews in my bag. 25 miles to go. I did better on the over passes when I got into my granny gear. They still aren't easy. I expected more tailwind. Took another stop in Dunedin and ate another stroopwafel. I had to ride a little longer to make my Apple Watch record 55 miles. My legs started cramping. I never felt that before!

I rode down to Flatwoods. I blew a snot rocket and maybe a bit too hard and my nose started bleeding. I didn't stop, I didn't slow down. I just used my rag to try to stop it. It took a few miles but finally stopped. I hate winter. Even in humid Florida my sinuses can get too dry. I kept myself to one loop and rode home. 21.41 miles 13.0 mph

It was not a good week for riding. I got a sore throat after my long ride last week. I thought it was the hydration mix but it was still there the next day. Then the sinus congestion, then the cough and finally laryngitis. I kept riding but trying to take it easy. Also, the Apple Watch January Challenge is to walk 4.3 miles each day. So I am riding less in the morning to get in some walking before work.

I didn't know to take a pen with me. I left a bandaid from my first aid kit. It is a good reminder to replenish my kit that I haven't opened since last century. The ride home was nice with the tailwind. My legs felt like noodles.

South wind so I rode down to Flatwoods. Invalid SIM card when I got to Flatwoods. Rebooted iPhone. Four loops. Felt good. Trout Creek covered path. Two older cyclists rode on the bridge. Didn't care that others were there. Then another asshole did the same coming. I didn't expect it from the Olds. Rode to New Tampa Park then to @Starbucks.

I got a vanilla bean Frappuccino with toffee nut sauce and caramel drizzle. And pumpkin bread. When does the diet start? The ride home was good. My legs whined a bit as I started up after sitting at the coffee shop. I only got stopped at one light and forgot to restart my Apple Watch and lost two miles. The @ClifBar Spice Pumpkin Pie wasn't as good as the @Starbucks Pumpkin Bread but half the calories and lots more protein.

Klimat.app is cool but it doesn't report wind gusts. In this case, the gusts were reported at 17-19 mph. That almost stops you in your tracks when it is against you.
I rode to Flatwoods and did three loops because I knew the ride back would be easy. The wind and the clouds kept the temperature lower which is good because I ran out of @skratchlabs hydration mix. Luckily, I still have @honeystinger Cherry Cola Gels. I wish they made them without caffeine since eating them in the afternoon tends to mess up my sleep.
The ride home was great with the tailwinds and I average 14.3 mph during that portion.

A better week for riding. There was only one cold morning that resulted in a shorter ride. I finished up the Coffeeneuring Challenge. I enjoyed the cocoa and will probably do it next year.

Rode down to BBD.
Chain slipping like crazy. Stopped at the light to cross. Chain dropped. Robbie was at Flatwoods and saw me. He has a new bike. I rode two loops. It I stayed in a higher gear, I was mostly OK. Could not make it up the little hill. Went to Oliver's to see what it was going to cost me. Randy was there and said I could pay the $70 later. They fixed it and even tried my rear wheel some. Debating if I should go to Starbucks.
I can't seem to get through a Coffeeneuring challenge without having to get something fixed on my bike.
I went to Starbucks for one last Peppermint Hot Cocoa.

Cold!

Put new iPhone mount on my bike. It is big and clunky and stiff to use. But it works and wasn't expensive.
I saw wild turkeys along Wiregrass Ranch Blvd.
Rode up to SR54 back down to SR56 to @Starbucks. Toasted White Chocolate Cocoa. Tastes burnt. Not good.

Ride home was good with tailwind but my toes were getting cold. Sandals just don't cut it below 60°.
